Our 40th Reunion at Red Gate Farms June 26th, 2010, was a BIG success

Music was provided by Betsy Cook's son, Tripp West, who is an excellent DJ in Atlanta.
He also provided fantastic DJ services for the informal Friday night get-together in 2005.
Check out his MySpace website: www.myspace.com/trippwest

Gerald did a fantiastic job of providing all of the food for the event. Everything was delicious, and plenty for everyone. Thanks, Gerald!

The event was held out in the beautiful Red Gates Ampitheatre under a beautiful full moon.
Weather was somewhat cool and breezy, but mostly hot.
Some have suggested scheduling future events in the Fall when its a little cooler.

Red Gate Farms was a perfect location. Lots of space, and a new covered screened porch area!
Thank you to the Smiths for generously providing this fun and convenient location.
Everyone dressed cool, comfortable, and casual - and there was a lot of dancing and laughing.
It was a fun night.

40th Reunion Rainbow!
There was a beautiful rainbow at Red Gate Farms as our 40th Reunion Event began!

The 2nd annual Oyster Roast was held Saturday February 24, 2007 at Red Gate Farms. Thanks again to Ricky Smith!
The combined SHS - HVJ event turned out to be a really great success.
There was more food, more to drink, more people, and MORE FUN!
The Oysters were totally fantastic - some said they were the best ever!
It was a beautiful cool sunny afternoon which turned into a magical star-filled evening.
Be sure to check out the photos in the Photo Section!

According to Mark Thomas, the idea for the joint SHS/ Jenkins oyster roast was a combined effort of Ricky Smith, Mark Thomas, Glenn Braddy and Mike Fogarty.
Glenn , Mike, Ricky and Mark met at Spankys and ironed out generalities...and took a blood oath that they would do it and pay for it together...regardless of who showed up!
They did meet one more time at Ricky`s for specifics and then it was on.
Mark said, "Well, we`d have considered it a success if we`d had four people!"
There was no confirmed count, but it was estimated that about 120 people showed up.
Regarding each school's attendance, it was close to evenly didvided.
SHS - about 55%
HVJ - about 45%

Marion brought hot dogs, two dips, chips, and brownies, with Cokes and Sprite.
Bill Minz from Jenkins brought a chopped up Boston butt with buns, oysters, and keg of beer
Many people brought their own drinks and supplies.
Ricky Smith had a great fire going!
The party ended around 11....

Savannah High School

Savannah High School evolved as the senior division of Chatham Academy, chartered by the Georgia Legislature in 1788. In 1935, due to overcrowding in schools, the Board of Education collaborated with the Public Works Administration to erect this structure, the largest construction in the state at that time. In 1963 twelve African-American students selected by the NAACP integrated Savannah High School, one of the first two schools in Chatham County to integrate. Savannah High School moved to Pennsylvania Avenue in 1997 and Savannah Arts Academy, a visual and performing arts school, occupied this site.

The Happy Geechees

The Happy Geechees are an association of students who attended Benedictine, Commercial High School, Savannah High School and St. Vincent's Academy from 1928-1954. The group holds an annual reunion and anyone who attended these schools is eligible. For more information about upcoming events, call Logan Dixon (SHS '41), (912) 920-3896.

The 26th reunion of the Happy Geechees was Oct. 16, 2004 at the Wilmington Island Club.
